Answer:

Abnormal Psychology in News
In an article in The Gazette (Montreal) by (Julie, 2018) suggested that there was no reason to believe that people with mental illnesses were more creative than those without mental illnesses. Mental awareness campaigns had put false accusations surrounding mental illnesses. Edgar Allan Poe who was a writer had a bipolar disorder. However there is no proof that people who suffer from mental disorders are more creative than those who are not mentally ill, creativity is a symbolic gift and is often a result of hard work. Most of the artists suffer from a mental disorder but this is because they use their artistic skills as a coping mechanism for their mental disorder. Julie stated that a Canadian psychiatrist David Goldbloom pointed out that mental illness hindered creativity; people were more creative when they are not undergoing any mental disorder such as depression. Some of the stereotypes also say that mentally ill people are violent and have criminal behavior. This statement is also false. The article dismisses that mental illness is a biological problem. It instead suggests that mental disorder is the product of one’s social environment.
In the book, an integrative approach 5 edition by (Barlow et al, 1997) suggested that there existed a link between creativity and mental disorder. However, the link was not casual. Most of the creative writers have bipolar disorder, depression disorder or drug a substance disorder. According to this book, Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes a person think unclearly. The book consequently suggested that there is scholarly performance among people with Schizophrenia. However one cannot tell whether excellent school performance can be equated to creativity. The book suggests that there is no difference in educational levels between people with or without bipolar disorder. The book also highlighted that most of the writers and politicians are bipolar. The book proposed different links between psychopathology and creativity. Psychopathology can cause creativity. Additionally, (Waddell, 1998) also suggested that there was a link between mental disorder and creativity.
As (Julie,2012) in his article confirms what is written in the book because it suggests that most of the writers have a mental disorder. However, it also suggests that mental disorder and creativity do not have any link. This article makes us understand that mental disorder cannot be a factor affecting anyone who has a talent for art. Additionally, its statement contradicts what is in the book as the book suggests that there is a link between mental disorder and creativity but the link is not yet known. The article by Julie is biased. Generally, mental health care can be seen as a topic can cause debate in the health industry. This is because many health practitioners and experts have a different understanding for instance on the links between mental disorders and art. This calls for further investigations as far as psychological disorders are a concern. Psychological experts need to be involved in research and trace the link between mental disorder and art. Personally, I am shocked and cannot comprehend the relationship as the article claims at a glance since it seems to be based on a small scope. In daily life situation, most mentally disorder people never have talents or present meaningful presentations. The article author might have just observed one mentally disordered individual who has talent and concluded the thought.
