Question:

You are required to reflect by drawing upon your own current understandings about autism, a person first perspective and support needs across the lifespan. Further, you are required to reflect on your own and others’ views about autism. Structure your reflection as follows:
1.Describe the support needs an individual and their carer require over their lifespan
2.Based on your work in this subject, identify milestones across the lifespan for an individual with autism and their carer that challenged you and/or were different to the ideas you had about the lifespan needs. Consider how your own beliefs may have been extended, reinforced, or challenged as a result.

Answer:

Support needed by the individual
In this section I will discuss about the care or support that the people suffering from the autism needs. I must say in this course that the autism is developed within an individual from the childhood. The people suffering from autism will need the proper care for his or her improvement (Lord et al., 2013). The attention of the common people is generally on the children. It is very important to detect the disease very early so the treatment can be started within a certain time. The proper care has to be provided to the children according to some guidelines. The care giving facilities to the children with autism have to be given properly indeed. If the facilities are given to the children sooner it will surely improve the conditions of the children in the future. The researchers have showed if the intervening has been done before the age of three it will have bigger impact than taking actions after the age of five. In my opinion the early intervention services must be opted by the parents and this should be better for the development of the children in many ways (Lord et al., 2013).
I must point out some of the things that the people suffering from autism will need. The symptoms of autism can be very severe most of the times and it can be seen in the everyday tasks done by the children. It has been observed in many cases that the people suffering from autism have some deep interest or passions related something or the other. The care givers can make some strategies on how they should treat the children. They should go for creating a structured environment (Fuentes et al., 2012). This will help the children suffering from autism can fix up a routine and work according to that only. This will surely be helpful for the children to maintain the daily schedules. They will also be able to get enough time for the proper transitions as this will solve the behavioral issues and frustrations among the children.
The care givers must provide the instructional support to the autism affected children within the classroom setting. The teachers should make the children learn the things with the pictures and the visual presentations (Fuentes et al., 2012). They should not let the children get distracted and give rewards to the children if they behave positively within the classroom. I think this kind of treatment with kindness and care will help the children to grow.
Care for autism in individual level
I have some of my own beliefs that can be inspiring for the development of the children suffering from autism. When the autism care givers go on to provide the proper support to the children they face several challenges (Christensen et al., 2018). I have also faced such challenges where I had to redesign my plan for the better outcomes. Even I have faced some challenges in this context as well. I have studies some issues regarding the development of the autism and I got to know that the boys have more tendencies to develop the autism than the girls. When I got to see other cases of the autism I found out that the children suffering from autism will be vulnerable to the hyperactivities.
The children would not be able to pay attention to the studies or games for a long span of time. I have also learned that these kids suffering from autism are more emotional than the others and they very much impulsive in many cases. They certainly face several difficulties in understanding and comprehending the environment (Christensen et al., 2018). The intensity of the symptoms can vary from person to person and I have learned about it from my experiences. I have also noticed some unusual behaviors among the children with autism. They become aggressive without any proper and valid reason. They also engage in some behaviors that can cause damage to their bodies. They respond in odd manner to the sensory stimuli like eating, sleeping and others.
Sometimes it becomes almost impossible for others to control the (Wing, 2013). I have felt that there can be some developments through the proper diagnosis at the right time and the early intervention services. I believe that the proper cooperation and tenderness towards these poor children can do wonders indeed. No specific reasons have been found as to why autism is caused in the children. In my opinion, I will have to extend my beliefs about the cure process for the autism. I can opine after my experiences that the children can be cured of autism if they are treated well and given the proper care.
The care should be given to the children on their lifespan needs. It might take the whole life for the seriously affected children to be cured. There should not be any lack of the care or else the conditions might deteriorate. The milestones for the challenges in autism should be analyzed properly since psychologists, psychiatrists and speech therapists should work together for the betterment of the situation (Wing, 2013). As it is clinically proved that the autism cannot be cured entirely, there will be a need to improve the life quality of the individuals. The severe sufferers of autism will not be able to get an employment or opportunities for the education. However, the quality of life for the children can be improved for their well-being only.
