Duty of care human rights:
The balance between the duty of care and human rights is important in health care service. It is legal obligation that is implemented for individual that require adherence to standard care while involving in the act that could cause harm to others (Russell 2012).
Informed consent mandatory reporting practice standards:
Informed consent is defined as the process of getting permission before introducing any intervention for a person related to the health care service (Russell 2012).
Privacy, confidentiality and disclosure policy frameworks:
The process of maintaining privacy and confidentiality is mandatory in case of mental health care service. They should not disclose such confidential matter as it could consider as the violation of nursing ethics and patient safety (Russell 2012).
Records management:
Records management make the nursing practice more successful. It helps to understand the previous health history of the patient and the progress in the treatment process and monitor improvement or deteriorate in the health condition of the patient (Russell 2012).
Rights and responsibilities of workers, employers and individual:
It is the right of the individual people with mental illness to access effective care service in the community. The duty of the health professionals and other staffs of the health care organization is to provide equal care service to individual. (Russell 2012).
Work role boundaries-responsibilities and limitation work health safety:
There are some boundaries in the health care service that need to follow by the health professionals. Such regulations help to understand the limitation of each staff and roles of the individual in an effective manner (Russell 2012).
Recovery in terms of mental health does not refer to the complete cure of illness. In some cases it is defined as the controlling life in an effective manner despite of suffering from mental disorders (Jorm 2012).
Recovery oriented practice:
It provides support to the individual to empower their choice and the way they want to live their lives. Such practice acknowledges the strengths of the patient and make them believes that the patients are experts in their own life. It helps to encourage the patient thus facilitate the recovery process (Jorm 2012).
Health promotion and prevention:
In order to create awareness regarding the mental illness it is important to promote positive health practice. It includes the recommendations for preventing various factors from influencing mental illness. Such process of health promotion and prevention would help to maintain health and well-being in an effective manner (Jorm 2012).
Holistic approach:
It is defined as the process of care that maintains balance between body, mind and spirit. It is not only about maintaining physical well-being but also providing health conscious and subconscious mind to the patients (Jorm 2012).
Empowerment/ disempowerment:
Empowerment or allowing people to choose a way to live their life based on their strengths encourage the patient to contribute in the treatment thus helps to recover fast. Whereas disempowerment or restriction would create difficulties in providing treatment in case of mental illness (Jorm 2012).
Access and equity early intervention rights:
Health and well-being is the fundamental right of the people thus it is important to provide equal access and reduce inequality in the health care service. In this regard Health Equity Policy is provided in Australia (Phaa.net.au 2018).
Social justice and inclusion:
The department of health in Australia advocate for social justice and social inclusion related to health service. In this regards it provides attention to the social inequalities and support people to understand the act related to human rights so that they could advocate for their rights (Health.gov.au 2018).
Citizenship:
The Australian legislation has included several clauses which indicate that citizenship could be revoked or denied by the government in case of people who have the court orders to undertake rehabilitation of drugs or residential program related to mental illness (Homeaffairs.gov.au 2018).
Historical, current and emerging models of mental health:
William Sweetser has been discovered the term mental hygiene in the middle of 19th century. In the current situation there are many factors that contribute to the consequence of mental illness. It has been found that reducing the stress level could improve the mental health status. Research related to the mental health condition is going on in order to identify the preventive and improving areas in the health care to provide more effective service to reduce the consequence of mental illness (Simon et al. 2013).
Evidence based recovery is one of the based process to recover faster in case of mental illness. In evidence based recovery process treatment is provided based on the recent research conducted academically or scientifically for the specific health issue. Personal recovery refers to living meaningful life while suffering from mental disorders. It includes self-esteem, capability to maintain relations, self-confidence and recover the mental illness (Townsend and Morgan 2017).
Services available for the people with mental illness:
In Australia adequate healthy service is available for the people with mental illness. The report provided by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) provides information regarding the activity and support of the Australian mental health care service. There are many health care organizations that provide effective service to manage mental illness. Free mental service and community based mental programme is also available in the country. Implementation of Mental Health Act also facilitates the service provided to the people with need. (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2018).
Strength based approach refers to the approaches that concentrate on the strengths of the individual person, families, organizations and care providers in order to facilitate the recovery process through empowerment. In case of mental health care it focuses on the strengths and resources of the patient instead of focus on the deficits and weakness. Such contribution of strength based approach helps to encourage the patient in participating in the treatment and induce fast recovery (Rashid 2015).
Reflective practice:
Reflective practice is defined as the mode of study that helps to evaluate own experience and improve skills from the experience. In case of mental health care the reflective practice is very important. The health professionals could identify their mistakes during providing treatment to the patient, thus could introduce effective strategies to address such mistakes in the future and improve their skills. The effectiveness of reflective practice helps to understand the best way to provide service and achieve expected outcomes (Bulman and Schutz 2013).
