You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.Community Health Settings Essay.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
Overview of the community clinical site My clinical site for community health was at Kansas City rescue mission located at 1520 Cherry St, Kansas City, Missouri. I started from August 30th to September 14th. The site is a homeless shelter rescue facility for men. The shelter provides the following services: meals, showers, healthcare, laundry services, bible study, drug and alcohol addiction support groups, and medication administration. The healthcare service at Kansas City rescue mission is setup like a doctor’s office. The clients sign up to be seen by the nurse and once they come into the nurse’s office, they are interviewed, a focused assessment is performed, and recommendations are determined. The shelter also provided assistance in job placement to men that resided in this shelter and place to stay for those with no alternative shelter. Involvement with the Agency I was in interviewing and charting the subjective data, performed a focused assessment based on what the client came in for, made recommendations, provided education, and gave over the counter medication to the client under the supervision of my preceptor.Community Health Settings Essay.
Community Health Nursing Reflection
According to Phyllis Meadows (2009), “Community health nurses are valued for their adaptability and willingness to provide care in many settings, including community health clinics, churches, homeless shelters, and schools,” (p. 19). Community health nurses aim to improve health outcomes and improve the infrastructure used to monitor and manage disease within the community. Healthy People 2020 has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time to improve health outcomes. Each community has unique needs and the role of the community health nurse is to work with and provide comprehensive care to patients within the community. This …show more content…
It is important for a community health nurse to identify these situations as a potential for exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals. The nurse’s role would be to identify community resources that can help to improve these situations, educate families how to avoid exposure and identify signs and symptoms of exposure, and when to seek medical attention.
Other community nursing roles within Spring Mills include helping individual families identify and maintain chronic and acute illnesses, providing education to prevent spread of disease, and identify resources that would prove beneficial for individuals in need of basic resources, such as primary care and basic needs related to leading a healthy lifestyle. This might include financial support, nutritional support, transportation, mental health resources, child education resources, and household safety measures that can be put in place to prevent injury. Many residents of Spring Mills farm their own gardens for food. A community nurse can educate how to identify contamination of home grown fruits and vegetables and what to do if an associated illness occurs, such as from ingesting contaminated food or exposure to chemicals used to keep gardens healthy.Community Health Settings Essay.
Community and Public Health Nursing Journal 2
Summary
Some of the most gratifying things about being a nurse is the distinctive role we have with those we care for. Our role encourages openness and transparency for clients and their families to reveal things to us they may not be willing to say under most circumstances. Furthermore, nursing is a life path that comes with incalculable responsibilities to be both a compassionate health care provider and a conscientious advocate. This semester I had the opportunity to experience nursing from the perspective of a Community Health Nurse in Montclair, California. It has given me a chance to practice these responsibilities in different ways. It has also given me a new perspective on nursing.Community Health Settings Essay.
As a Community Health Nursing student, I have had the opportunity to learn many new topics and to practice in the community. Most recently, I had the opportunity to interact with the senior citizens of the Montclair Senior Center. There I helped to screen blood pressures and serum glucose levels. I was able to do teaching on pre-hypertension and hypertension in addition to pre-diabetes and diabetes education. I was able to provide this teaching in English and Spanish. I learned that in order to successfully do a screening, the community health nurse must target a group that is accessible and easily identifiable through a contained place, like the senior center.
In addition, I have continued to gain insight into the community through observation and research in the past weeks. I have learned more about places like the Montclair Youth Opportunity Center, which is a trendy hub for many young people during the summer or after school during the school year.Community Health Settings Essay.
